In 1792, the New York Stock Exchange was founded by brokers meeting under a tree on what is now Wall Street.
In 1954, the U.S. Supreme Court issued its landmark Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka, Kan., ruling. The court unanimously reversed its 1896 "separate but equal" Plessy vs. Ferguson decision and declared that racially segregated public schools were inherently unequal.
